Just a single race was on the programme for today’s point-scoring mission in the final event of the French Solo Offshore Racing Championship in Quiberon. Indeed a wind strength of force 2 to 3 enabled the solo sailors to compete in just one 10 mile coastal course, which mirrored the inaugural race for this event. 22nd at the finish, Jean-Pierre Nicol had hoped to change the tone of today’s racing through a series of windward-leeward courses later in the day. However, he hadn’t banked on a misty episode barging its way into the bay, urging the organiser to send everyone back to port. This move proved to be all the more annoying just minutes later as there was glorious sunshine on the race zone. On the eve of the last day of competition in this Quiberon Solo, the skipper of Bernard Controls was philosophical about recent events: “I’d have liked a slightly different coastal course than the one we’d already contested, that’s for sure. It’s always more interesting to tackle something new! I didn’t get off to a very good start and I suddenly felt that tactically I didn’t have a free rein to do what I wanted. Obviously I was banking on one or two races to make up my losses but it wasn’t to be! It’s a real shame they decided to cancel the racing without waiting a while, as the situation very quickly cleared and it would have been possible to race again”. Rendez-vous tomorrow for the final of the Quiberon Solo and also the 2011 season.
