Bernard Controls 6th into Douarnenez – Great introduction for JP and Corentin
Sep 12th
Account from Jp and Corentin on their arrival in Douarnenez after a very boisterous leg!
“With the organisation having decided not to send us off to meet Irene, we only left Perros-Guirec yesterday morning bound for Douarnenez.
At daybreak, the race committee set us going, under spinnaker, in less than 8 knots of wind, which was very disturbed by the landscape. We weren’t very good at this very risky little game. Offshore of Ploumanac’h, after an hour of racing, we ended up in 26th place!
In around 15-20 knots of South-Westerly wind, it wasn’t shaping up to be a very good day for More >
Jean-Pierre Nicol: fronting the Solitaire du Figaro!
Aug 24th
Arriving in Dieppe in 38th position, 57 minutes and 50 seconds astern of the winner Jérémie Beyou, Jean-Pierre Nicol struggled to conceal his disappointment. A perfectly normal reaction for the skipper of Bernard Controls, whom we know by now to be a racer through and through with a resolute temperament. Furthermore, he figured at the front More >

100 miles from the finish in Dieppe, the fleet is currently racing along the Cotentin coast, through the mist, with a favourable current and a NNE’ly wind of around a dozen knots. 35th* and 5.5 miles astern of the leader, Jean-Pierre Nicol knows just what lies ahead. Indeed a drag race under spinnaker looks to be on the cards, with the conclusion coloured by a breeze expected to shift round to the West. In theory there are no major strategic coups to be had between now and the grand finale of this Solitaire du Figaro beneath Normandy’s cliffs. However, a More >
Sleepless nights
Aug 23rd
At 0830 hours this morning, the fleet were off Perros-Guirec, northern Brittany, like a nod in the direction of the port where hostilities commenced on 31 July. Since they began to tackle the Breton coast, the solo sailors have been constantly rock hopping, which means any moments for rest and recovery have been few and far between. Last night was no exception to the rule. In a north-easterly wind oscillating between 13 and 20 knots, the competitors are on a beat right now, awaiting the front and the westerly wind shift. The only notable fact from last night’s activity in More >
